Contains photographs of the following military organizations: Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE); North American Air Defense Command (NORAD). General description of the collection: The Quentin Pease photograph collection contains photos reflecting the middle and later part of his career in the U.S. Army, from which he retired as a full colonel in 1971. The photos are on a wide variety of subjects ranging from portraits of fellow officers, a visit of Major General James M. Gavin, NORAD and SHAPE Groups, field exercises, open locker inspection layouts, parades and reviews, missiles and rockets, award presentations, and sports. The majority were taken in Germany during his two tours.

James Maurice Gavin (b. Mar. 22, 1907-d. Feb. 23, 1990) was born in Brooklyn, New York. He received his commission in the infantry from West Point in 1929, and later served as an instructor at the Academy in 1940 and 1941.
